Dylan Goodson

Low Relief Scene or Human Bust

This year’s relief project will be a Florida river scene featuring a manatee in the water and a house over looking the palm and cypress tree lined river banks.  In addition to Dylan’s techniques for carving the house and landscape bring your wood burner so you can learn Dylan’s technique for creating a screened in porch.  Each student will be provided with a DVD covering the power carving techniques that Dylan uses since there’s never enough time to cover this fully during class.  Project size will probably be approx. 8.5” by 11” by 2” thick.

If relief is not your interest, Dylan is also offering a 9 inch tall Native American Bust.  This will give you the opportunity to learn about carving the anatomy of the face and some fun clothing details.

Students will be carving using carving stands provided by Dylan and should bring their carving tools.  Dylan prefers intermediate or mallet-sized tools and a mallet; although palm tools will work and can be very useful.  Rough-outs will range from $30 to $45, depending on project.
