Robert Schrepfer

Hand Mirror

Robert Schrepfer teaches various patterns of shallow relief on the back of hand mirror blanks. This enjoyable class gives a taste of what shallow relief is  in a beautiful project. There are various patterns that can be chosen on for the hand mirrors.  Some of the patterns include flowers, butterflies, hummingbirds, and chip carving.

There are blanks from various types of wood.  Generally, there is Bass wood, Butternut, Cherry, Black Walnut, Eastern Red Cedar, Tulip Poplar, Red Oak, White Oak, Hickory, Maple, and occasionally some tropical woods. Robert makes the blanks and does all the machining so no one will need to do any sanding before they start carving. In the past, some blanks have had such nice figuring in the grain that carvers have purchased the blanks, put a finish on them, and not carve them. They just loved the way they looked.

It would be good for each carver to have a bench hook, non slip matting, and sharp general carving tools, V-tool, # 3, 5, 7, 9, a set of micro tools such as Dockyard (2.5, 3, 4, 5 mm and V tool), and carving knife. For questions contact Bob at roschrepfer@att.net or 404-200-3065 cell
